The euro was steady above 1.28 to the dollar ahead of the ECB policy decision due today and the dollar index was below the 83 mark.
Mohan Shenoi, Kotak Mahindra Bank said, "The risk-off scenario is resulting in weaker stock markets globally and in India. BoJ, ECB and BoE policy meets today are likely to be key triggers for the rupee. Lower crude prices is a mild positive. The range for the day is seen between 54.35-54.70/USD."
